"Repairing the Harm - How restorative practices can benefit victims and communities while addressing the harm caused by offenders"
The conference will explore the various applications of restorative practices and mediation and their benefits for victims, our communities and society in contemporary Scotland.
The conference will focus on:
- Identifying best practice in the provision of restorative practices
- Exploring the difference between mediation and restorative practice
- Highlighting the benefits of restorative practices to those harmed by offending
- Considering the need for a change in how we meet victims” needs and deal with
the consequences of offending
- The role of Restorative Practices in combating recidivism.
The conference will be chaired by The Rt Hon., The Lord Cullen of Whitekirk KT and speakers will include Frank Mulholland QC, Solicitor General for Scotland, Ivo Aertsen, Professor at K.U. Lueven Institute of Criminology and Susan Gallagher, Director of Development, Victim Support Scotland.

1st Conference of the Connections Project "Joining the Dots: Criminal justice, treatment and harm reduction"
The first European conference of the CONNECTIONS project, “Integrated responses to drugs and infections across European criminal justice systems”, will facilitate the introduction and promotion – at national and European level – of more effective, comprehensive, evidence-based policies and services to respond to drugs and related infections in European prisons and within the wider context of the criminal justice system.
There will be presentations by international experts, including; Lord David Ramsbotham, Dr Kate Dolan, Professor Dwayne Simpson and Professor Krzysztof Krajewski.
